Learner Guide to e-Attendance

How to mark your attendance via the Singpass app for Connect Centre training sessions, for both in-person and virtual classes.

1. What is e-Attendance and Why It Matters

Since 1 October 2023, SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) requires attendance for classroom and synchronous e-learning (live virtual) training sessions to be recorded digitally via the Singpass app, rather than on paper. This is called e-Attendance. Where a course is not eligible for SSG funding, marking attendance via Singpass is optional, but we encourage all participants to use it, as it also serves as your own confirmation record for the session.

2. Before Your Course Starts

Please prepare the following ahead of your first session, ideally before the day itself:

  • A Singpass account. If you do not already have one, you can set this up at singpass.gov.sg.
  • The Singpass mobile app, installed on a mobile phone or tablet with a working camera, and signed in to your account.
  • Your device charged and with you at the start of each session, whether attending in person or online.

If you run into difficulty setting up Singpass before your course date, please contact us as early as possible (see section 6) so we can help you get ready in time.

3. Marking Attendance for In-Person Classes

At our training venue, our staff will display a Singpass QR code on a screen or kiosk at the start of each session. To mark your attendance:

  1. Open the Singpass app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the Scan button within the app.
  3. Scan the Singpass QR code displayed at the venue.
  4. Tap Approve to consent to share your attendance information.
  5. Your attendance is recorded once you see the confirmation on your app.

You can scan the QR code any time from 30 minutes before the session start time to 30 minutes after the session end time. We recommend marking your attendance as soon as you arrive, so there is no last-minute rush.

4. Marking Attendance for Virtual (Online) Classes

For live virtual sessions, you will need two devices:

  • A laptop or tablet to open the attendance link we send you, which displays your Singpass QR code on screen.
  • A mobile phone with the Singpass app, to scan that QR code (the same four steps as section 3 above: open the app, tap Scan, scan the code, tap Approve).

The same time window applies: 30 minutes before the session starts to 30 minutes after it ends. There is no need to enable location settings on your laptop or tablet for virtual sessions.

5. If Something Goes Wrong

  • "Unable to Process QR Code": this usually means the QR code has already been scanned by another participant, or has expired. Let our staff know and we will refresh the code for you to scan again.
  • Singpass app closes or crashes when scanning: try uninstalling and reinstalling the Singpass app, then attempt the scan again.
  • Singpass service disruption or no network at the venue: please inform our staff immediately. We will keep a record of the issue and, where needed, take your attendance manually while we resolve it with SSG.

If you are unable to resolve an issue yourself, please flag it to your trainer or our training coordinator on the day, rather than leaving the session without marking attendance.
